New screened porch addition on the back of a home in the Elgin area

The porch and the crew

What is a screened porch, and who builds one in Elgin?

A screened porch is a porch with screen in place of solid walls, so you get the breeze and keep the mosquitoes out. A screened patio enclosure does the same job for a patio you already have. JB Nealy Fence builds both in Elgin and the towns around it, and the crew is the same one that builds our fences and decks.

That matters because a porch is rarely a stand-alone job. The rail has to match the deck, the steps have to meet the yard, and a fence line often has to tie in. One crew on all of it means one conversation, not three. We walk the property with you, then send a quote, and estimates are free. The crew can handle county permits and build to HOA standards, so ask about both when you reach out.

Inside and outside

Built to look right outside and work right inside

A screened porch is seen from two places. We plan for both before the first post goes in.

Inside

From the yard

The porch should look like part of the house. Rail lines, trim and steps get planned together, so nothing looks added on.

From the porch

Inside, it is a room you use. Screen on the open sides, a door that swings where you walk, and space for the furniture you already own.

What is included

What is included when we build a screened porch?

Every porch is a little different, but these are the parts we plan and build.

Screened porch with screen walls above a brick base

Screened walls

Screen panels set between posts across the open sides of the porch or patio, framed square so the lines stay straight.

Screened porch door with white frame and rail detail

Screen doors

A framed screen door where you step out to the yard or the deck, hung to swing clear and close flush.

Wide screened porch with a white rail and screen walls along the side

Rails

Rails around the open edges with vertical balusters, the same style of white rail we build on our decks.

Wood steps and deck rail leading up to a screened porch

Steps

Steps from the porch floor down to the yard or the patio, sized to the height of your porch.

Pairing it with a new deck

Want a deck next to the porch? The same crew builds both, so the rail lines, the steps and the finishes match from one to the other.

When we decided to screen in our back patio, we didn’t hesitate to call them again. The screened-in enclosure came out better than we expected. The crew was professional, showed up when they said they would, and did solid work from start to finish. Everything is straight, secure, and finished nicely.

Pair the porch with a deck, a pergola or a fence

Most porch jobs bring something else along. Having one crew on all of it keeps the lines, the finishes and the schedule in step.

Love my new fence/deck combo! The guys with JB Nealy helped me design this great backyard upgrade! The wood/metal combo gave me the custom farmhouse look I was hoping for.

Questions

Screened porch questions, answered

Not seeing yours? Send a text or call, and we will talk it through.

Can you screen in a patio or deck I already have?

Yes. We build new screened porch additions on the back of a home, and we screen in existing patios as screened patio enclosures. On an existing patio, we walk the space with you first and look at what is overhead and underfoot, so the screen walls have something solid to sit on. Then we send you a quote.

What does a screened porch cost?

It depends on the size of the porch, how many doors you want, the rail and steps, and whether a deck is part of the job. We do not guess a number over the phone. Send us a text, talk it through, and we will walk the property with you and give you a quote. Estimates are free.

Do you handle permits and HOA rules?

Our crew can handle county permits and build to HOA standards. Tell us early if you have an HOA and share any rules you have been given. We plan the porch around them, so the design is settled before the build starts and nothing has to be torn out later to fit a rule.

How long does a screened porch take to build?

It depends on the size of the porch and on materials. Some materials can have longer lead times, so we talk through timing when we quote instead of promising a date up front. Adding a deck or steps to the job changes the schedule too, and we will tell you how.

Can you build the porch and a new deck together?

Yes. The same crew builds our decks and our screened porches, so the floor, the rail and the steps are planned as one job. That includes new composite decks with white rails and black balusters, wood decks, and tearing out an old deck to rebuild it. A fence or pergola on the same property can go in the same quote.

Which towns do you build screened porches in?

We build in Elgin, Woodcreek, Columbia, West Columbia, Lexington, Sumter, Florence, Rock Hill, Saint Andrews and Seven Oaks in South Carolina, and Monroe in North Carolina. Our work has also taken us to Lugoff, Hopkins, Lake Wateree and North Augusta. If your town is not on the list, ask, and we will tell you if it is in range.
