Wood fences
Privacy, board on board, shadow box, arched, flat-top, Charleston and picket styles, mostly in pressure treated pine, built by an Elgin crew that walks the fence line with you first.
Before the first post
Most wood fences we build around Elgin, Lugoff and Columbia are pressure treated pine. It is made to stand in the ground, and it takes stain once it has dried. The bigger decision is the style. Privacy fences close off the yard. Board on board stays shut as the lumber shrinks. Shadow box lets air through and looks finished from both sides. Arched tops soften a long run, flat-top keeps a level top line, Charleston is another style we build, and picket keeps the yard open. Slopes, corners and gate openings change how a fence is laid out, so we check them on the walk. We start by walking the property with you and marking the fence line before a post goes in. If your county or HOA has rules on height, style or setbacks, our crew can handle the permit and the HOA requirements. Tell us what the fence has to do, and we match the style and the gates to the job.
Wood fence styles
Every one of these is a style our crew has built. Pick by how much privacy you want, how the ground lays, and what the neighbors see.

Boards overlap in two layers, so the fence stays closed even as new lumber dries and shrinks.

Boards alternate on each side of the rail. Air and light pass through, and it looks finished from both sides.

A gentle curve across the top of each section. It softens a long run and makes a privacy fence look custom.
Not arched. The boards are cut to one level top line from post to post.
Open boards with pointed tops. It marks the line and keeps dogs and kids in without closing off the yard.

Gates and hardware
A gate gets used every day, so we plan it with the fence line, not after it. Tell us where the mower, the trailer or the dog has to get through, and we set the opening there.
Our wood gates carry black hardware that stands out clean against the pine.

After the build
New pressure treated boards need time to dry before stain will take. How long depends on the weather and the lumber, so ask us when your fence goes up. We stain and seal in these finishes.
What customers say
Impeccable work! JB Nealy installed a privacy fence for us, handling everything smoothly from county permits to final installation. Great communication, clean work, and amazing efficiency. Highly recommended!
Bradley and his team installed 350 linear feet of wooden fence 6 feet tall Charlestown style at my new house in Elgin. His work was perfectly straight and of craftsman quality. He only used the best treated wood and worked fast and clean. Bradley did exactly what he said he would do and I highly recommend his fence service.
We are very happy with our fence installed by JB Nealy Fence. We got a 6 foot arched wooden privacy fence with both a single gate and a double gate. The fence and gates are high quality, they brought all of their own materials, and were able to get it all done within a few days of our estimate. Highly recommend.
Wood fence questions
For most yards, yes. It is made to stand in the ground, and most of the wood fences we build in Elgin are pressure treated pine. New boards hold moisture and move as they dry, so board on board and shadow box styles handle that well. We talk through the wood and the style when we walk the property.
New pressure treated lumber needs to dry out before stain will soak in. How long that takes depends on the weather and the lumber, so there is no single number. Ask us when the fence goes up and we will tell you when it is ready. We also stain and seal fences, in several tones or a clear coat.
Customers tell us the crew handled county permits and built to HOA standards, and we can do the same on your fence. Height, style and setback rules differ by county and neighborhood, so send us your address and any HOA letter when you ask for a quote, and we will work from there.
We build single walk gates and double gates in wood, hung on black hardware. Tell us what has to get through the opening, such as a mower or a trailer, and we set the width to match. We plan the gates along with the fence line, not after the posts are in.
Send us a text, talk it over by phone, and receive a quote. Estimates are free. We walk the property with you and mark out the fence line before the build, so you see where every post and gate will land and can change it while the stakes are still out.
